The national team of the Omsk region in the past weekend performerd at traditional XXIII All-Russian Greco-Roman wrestling competitions, devoted to memory of the Honored trainer of RSFSR A.D. Afanasyev.
Tournament which took place on March 15-16, 2014 in Tomsk, brought together 140 participants from ten Russian regions - the Altai, Transbaikal, Krasnoyarsk edges, the Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Tomsk, Tyumen areas, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area, Altai Republic, and also from the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Omsk region was represented by ten athletes.
Two Omsk wrestlers became owners of bronze awards of prestigious tournament: Alexander Kovalenko (66 kg) and Alexander Zaikin (71 kg).
The All-Russian annual tournament of memory of the Honored trainer of RSFSR Alexander Afanasyev, the ancestor of Greco-Roman wrestling in Tomsk, is carried out since 1987, and for a long time became one of significant platforms for development and Greco-Roman wrestling promoting in the Siberian region. Tournament has the status of the masterful: winners acquire the right for assignment of a sports rank "The master of sports of Russia".
