On the eve of the Victory Day we will remember wrestlers veterans, whose feat forever remains in memory

On June 22, 1941 changed lives of millions people. Soldiers on calling, the Soviet wrestlers from the first days were on a front line. In Day of the Great Victory of our people over fascist aggressors we remember names of the great athletes who have shed blood for the world and the earth. But also we remember and we honor, all what names didn't remain in the history, but whose feat will eternally live!

Armenak (Aram) Yaltyryan — the known Soviet wrestler, the trainer, the repeated champion of the USSR according to the manumission and the Greco-Roman wrestling, one of founders of the Soviet school of free-style wrestling. The deserved master of sports of the USSR (1951). The deserved trainer of the USSR (1956). Judge of the international category (1956). It is awarded the order the Labour Red Banner (1957) and the award "Honour Sign" (1969).

In severe years of the Great Patriotic War, from the first days of war Aram Yaltyryan got up in ranks of heroic defenders of Kiev. The name of the brave Armenian athlete soldier is entered in the fiery chronicle of war, in memoirs of veterans. After the end of war in this city recommenced lessons by wrestling, successfully acting in the championships of the USSR both on Greco-Roman, and on free-style wrestling. In 1946-1948 he still became the champion of the USSR on Greco-Roman wrestling three times, and in 1945-1952 eight times were won by the free-style wrestling USSR championship.

Prior to the beginning of the 50th years of the XX century for the political reasons the Soviet athletes had no opportunity to take part in the international competitions. For the Soviet wrestlers the European championship of 1947 in Prague where Armenak Yaltyryan won a silver medal in weight category to 67 kg became the only exception. It also took part in debut for the Soviet athletes Olympic Games of 1952 in free-style wrestling competitions, having taken the fourth place.

After that made the decision to finish sports career and to pass to trainer's work. Further many years I was a part of a trainer's staff of USSR national team on free-style wrestling, I brought up the whole group of outstanding Soviet wrestlers of freestyle. Among them Olympic champion Boris Gurevich, world champions Yury Gusov, Vladimir Gulyutkin, Vladimir Sinyavsky. For many years Armenak Varteresovich trained national teams of Ukraine and the USSR. His pupils didn't bring the instructor, won awards in the championships of the USSR, Europe, the world, and also on Olympic Games. The country on merits estimated achievement of our fellow countryman. It among the first trainers was awarded by "A gold medal of USSR Sport committee" for preparation of athletes of the international class.

Ivan Mikhaylovsky – the champion of the USSR of 1937, the second prize-winner of the absolute Championship of the Union 1939.
Having begun sports career with loud all-Union victories, Ivan Mikhaylovsky yet time would please admirers of sports with loud victories, if not war …
The 29-year-old commander of a company Ivan Mikhaylovsky was lost in the 41st in night fight near Kiev. Flank machine-gun fire pressed his fighters to the earth between the first and second lines of the German trenches. Grenades Mikhaylovsky suppressed a machine gun, but itself it wasn't saved – long turn it was got by the fascist submachine gunner. Ivan Trofimovich near Vita-post is buried.

Yakov Punkin — the Soviet wrestler of classical style, the Olympic champion, the Deserved master of sports of the USSR (1952). The first native of Ukraine, become the Olympic champion.

Jacob Punkin was born in 1921 in Zaporozhye, in the Jewish family. Upon termination of seven classes went to work as the turner for plant and A.Feshotta started occupations by Greco-Roman wrestling in section. In 1938 I entered into top ten athletes of the Dnepropetrovsk area, in 1940 I became the silver prize-winner of superiority of Ukraine, in 1941 I won superiority of Ukraine. In 1940 graduated from the Kiev school of trainers.

In April, 1941 it was called in RKKA and it is sent to tank school to Volkovysk. In the very first days of war was taken prisoner. Till summer of 1942 was in camp for Fullen's prisoners of war in the northwest of Germany, from there it is transferred to Osnabryuk, from where it was sent to country farms for performance of agricultural works. During stay in captivity gave out myself for the Ossetian that allowed it to survive. After four years of fascist bondage Jacob Grigoryevich managed to run. When our soldiers found it in the wood, future champion, 24-year-old Jacob weighed 32 kg! But after rehabilitation in hospital, it returned at once on the front, having managed to win some fighting awards.

In 1947 became the champion of Armed forces on Greco-Roman wrestling. Having invalided out from army, returned to Zaporozhye and became the trainer. In 1948 took the 6th place in the Greco-Roman wrestling USSR championship, in 1949 I became the champion of the USSR.

In an Olympic team it was included being already triple champion of the USSR, the master of sports of the USSR, the participant of 18 international fights, at only one lost. His crown reception — a throw a deflection was Jacob Punkin's skate, thus Punkin executed it especially, with sharp change of a trajectory of a throw after its beginning.

Aron Gonzha – the triple champion of the USSR on Greco-Roman wrestling.
Experts admired powerful parameters of the 113-kilogram Kiev heavyweight. Aron participated in two representative international tournaments in Paris and Istanbul and brought two gold awards to Kiev.

Last time wrestlers saw the sworn brother Gonzhu on a carpet in 1940 in the absolute USSR championship. In July of 1941st Gonzha left on the front. Around Obukhov it was hard contused and it appeared in captivity. Having run away from captivity, Aron Gonzha reached Kiev, but in the city it was handed over to fascists by the traitor informer …

George Bayev – the champion of the USSR
In the 1941st, the USSR championship was held at once in several cities of the country. At the beginning of May George won a gold medal in semi-lightweight, but wasn't limited to it. He as if felt that it is the last championship in his life that last time he sees the wrestling arena. on June 7th Bayev participates again in superiority of the country (in tournament lightweight) and wins silver.

… Red Army man George Lukyanovich Bayev one of the last left Kiev surrounded with Germans. The fascist bullet caught up with it on the bank of Dnepr. There were to it 23 years...
